Stickers

Something that irks me intensely about buying cheap books is all the damned stickers on them....

You know the ones - 3for2, buy one get one free, price stickers, book club endorsements.. I HATE them all!

I have no idea what it is about them that I hate so much, but i can barely wait to get my books home so I can peel the damned things off and shake the sticky things off my fingers and into the bin.

I know that it's a good marketing technique, clearly marking the books on offer that might otherwise be missed - and believe me, I like getting a good deal, getting more books for less money absolutely rocks, but....

I still hate those damned stickers.

Hi Sweetie. It was so long since you added anything here, I had thought maybe you went blind and were learning braile or something. You can't just STOP being a reader.

For a change of pace you might try Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They have a series featuring FBI Special Agent Pendergast that are imminently readable. He is part Sherlock Homes, part mystic, and very mysterious.

Oh, and my per peve is the subscription cards they put in periodicals. It just bugs the heck out of me to have 3 X 5 cards falling out of a magazine I am trying to read.

I don't mind the stickers if it means cash off, and the glue is usually so bad that the stickers come off easily enough.

I am big into used books and I hate when people write their names across all of the pages. I don't mind a sweet note from someone to another person, but I hate when people really trash the pages.

I absolutely hate those damned things, too. Actually, I hate anything with adhesive that's been applied to anything I'm interested in buying. I'm one of those who is not generally affected by the advertising pranks of Madison Avenue. I buy something because I'm interested and because I like it, but I'll do a lot of research about it, too, before I buy it. Basically, I've got to sell meself on the thing first,... except, possibly, for books. When it comes to books, however, a 3 for the price of 2 or a buy one get one free promotion is one thing that will affect me, certified book whore that I am. The more books I can buy for less the better.

Even so, I hate it when the adhesives used do damage to the book I'm buying. It almost makes me want to return the book for one undamaged, sans the damned sticker. And those freakin' adhesive 'security' stickers they use on new CDs... what the hell is that? I'll spend several minutes with a strip of cellophane tape working to get the other adhesive off. I think it's interesting that one adhesive can work well in the removal of another.

By the way, that one book you have listed,... Dangerous Book for Boys - Gonn and Hal Iggulden... Damned good book! I've used it to come up with all sorts of interesting activities for me and my sons. :D
